Sugar & Your Brain with Dr. Nicole Avena

In this 3-part program, Dr. Avena will review the science behind sugar and why it can be so difficult to reduce it in our diets. She will cover the biological basis of sugar cravings, discuss research which suggests that excess sugar intake can result in an addiction-like state, review the sources of added sugars, and discuss the benefits and drawbacks of alternative sweeteners.

    The program will include:

    • practical tips on ways to recognize and replace added sugars in your diet,

    • strategies for overcoming cravings,

    • methods for recognizing and avoiding marketing traps, and

    • discussions of the psychology of eating and how you can shift your food mindset to avoid eating too much added sugar

The format of the program will be three 1-hour sessions, with Dr. Avena speaking for 45 minutes, then 15 minutes of group discussion and Q&A.

This three-part course is offered at a $75.00 fee and registration is required.
