    Topics: Inflammation and Autoimmunity

Gain the support and knowledge you need to make lifestyle changes to reduce inflammation and symptoms of autoimmune disease for yourself or for someone you care about. The group meets monthly on a Wednesday for lunch to learn, discuss, and support one another along their varied journeys to a healthier life. Drawing on Suppers themes of Biological Individuality and Nutritional Harm Reduction, the group covers topics such as managing carb cravings, gut health, elimination diets, behavior change, and the effect of food, lifestyle choices, and environmental toxins on gut health, inflammation, autoimmunity, and the microbiome. Suppers Lunch for Immune Support is led by peer-trained facilitator and Registered Nurse, Rachel DeBoer, who has journeyed with rheumatoid arthritis for ten years and is now successfully managing her inflammation with only lifestyle and dietary changes. The menu for this meeting typically follows an anti-inflammatory, omnivore, and grain-free (AKA paleo) menu, but accommodations can be made for food restrictions, allergies, vegetarians and vegans. Topic: Cancer and Immune Support: Understanding and Managing Inflammation

The purpose of this monthly meeting is to support women who have experienced a diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The menus are based on anti-inflammatory diet protocols. In addition, Mireille’s philosophy of "It's not just what we eat, but HOW we eat" will inform this meeting, as the group will regularly do a consciousness practice on how we eat wisely and learn how to put the body in "rest and digest" mode.

Discussion topics will include relevant Suppers program concepts. We will also discuss  what you can do to manage inflammation for example but not limited to, what you eat, stress reduction and reducing toxicity in your environment.

Mireille and Fiona's "Cancer Sisters" Lunch is held Wednesdays, 11:30 AM for food preparation; 12:30 PM for lunch. The menu is omnivore, but vegetarians/vegans can be accommodated.

    Event Details

We just can’t hang around waiting for scientists to prove how to turn around our kids’ ADHD, slow down cognitive decline or find a cure for Alzheimer’s.  The latest research in medical nutrition points to a list of diet and lifestyle factors over which we have or can get control that strongly correlate with preservation of cognitive function and even the reversal of cognitive decline.

You can join our Suppers-style how-you-feel-is-data experiments.  You can learn how today’s eating habits, crankiness, mood swings, fuzzy thinking, and addiction lead to tomorrow’s poor concentration and brain deficits.  Learn which styles of cooking and eating keep you energetic, alert and content. Members will share books on nutrition and wellness, watch videos by nutrition-oriented neurologists and do light homework like journaling specific experiments. Periodically guest presenters will feature special themes for parents of children with learning issues and adult children concerned about aging parents.

There will be a range of menus, from vegan to Paleo to ketogenic. Food preparation takes place from 11:30 to 12:15 or so; eating and meeting takes place about 12:30 to 1:20; everyone helps with clean up. People with food intolerances must be there for food prep and to make sure only permitted foods go on their plates. Those who have not attended Suppers before must email Sarah@TheSuppersPrograms.org to do newcomer orientation.

Workshop to learn how to preserve the bountiful harvest from our local farms & land, led by Master Food Preserver Kim Rizk, Co-Founder & Owner of Jammin’ Crepes

In this hands-on workshop you will learn fun and fast ways to preserve the local winter harvest. Kim Rizk completed her Master Food Preserver certification from Cornell’s Agricultural Cooperative Extension and will introduce you to preserving techniques that range from lacto-fermentation and quick pickling to hot water bath canning.

“What we know and believe is that whatever is freshest is usually the most flavorful, nutritious and bountiful. As there is only so much of each crop that we can cook and enjoy during its season, preserving is a way to keep the bounty of available produce” says Kim. In this workshop we will work to understand and develop the best preservation methods for a few winter crops. Recipes include fermented carrots & brussel sprouts, pickled winter squash & canned spiced apples.

Please contact Terri if you have any questions.

Eaters of all styles can be accommodated.

This lunch is typically held every Monday, or every other Monday. The location varies, but if held in someone's home, food preparation takes place 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, eating and meeting takes place 12:30 to 1:30 pm.

The cost to cover groceries is payable at the meeting and ranges between $9 to $15 per person.

Join us for a wild plant walk where we’ll identify, taste, and get to know our local, edible spring greens including dandelion greens, chickweed, and violets. Not only do spring greens taste delicious, but we’ll learn some of the specific properties of these plants. They are often just what sluggish, post-winter bodies need — full of minerals for a cleansing effect on systems like the liver, kidneys, and lymph. You’ll have the opportunity to taste them in a wild greens pesto!

Herbal Workshops are led by professional herbalist, Tish Streeten, student of Juliette de Bairacil Levy and graduate of David Winston’s Center for Herbal Studies, with Suppers Facilitators Carolyn Peucker, Rutger's Master Gardener, or Rachel DeBoer, Registered Nurse.

Please contact Rachel if you have any questions.

Join Carolyn Peucker  and Donna Ritz for this Signature Suppers Meeting where we will look to develop positive strategies to address our current relationship with food and eating. Menu will include a largely plant based menu with an animal protein dish available. In this meeting, there will be peer coaching and support and participants will be part of a community of people transforming their relationship with food. Please bring paper and pen.

Food preparation takes place from 11:30 to 12:15 or so; eating and meeting takes place about 12:30 to 1:20; everyone helps with clean up. People with food intolerances must be there for food prep and to make sure only permitted foods go on their plates. Those who have not attended Suppers before must email Carolyn to do newcomer orientation.

    For questions, please contact Carolyn.
